Switching from Scrivener

A Scrivener alternative that answers back from your research

Scrivener is unmatched for manuscript assembly. KNOW ME - SHOW ME adds a layer on top: every note, quote and interview becomes searchable material you can question, and the AI can draft outlines, chapters and reports from the folders you build.

Scrivener vs KNOW ME - SHOW ME

What happens after you write

Scrivener stores scenes, research and notes in a binder you organize by hand.

Every note is stored and retrievable by question — ask a folder for an outline, a summary, or the gaps left to fill.

Research integration

You link files and web pages; finding the right quote is still manual.

Attach a note to 1,950+ classics, 126,000+ attributed quotes (comedians included), 6,100+ artworks, indexed podcasts or published research and get cited answers tied to your draft.

Private vs shared

Projects are local files; sharing means exporting or cloud sync.

Entry-by-entry spaces: PRIVATE, PUBLIC, PROJECT, ADVISOR. Share a whole folder or a single entry with family, co-authors or collaborators.

Output formats

Compile to Word, PDF, ePub and more from a structured manuscript.

Generate a book, letter or report from any selection of entries, download as Word or PDF, or print a keepsake.

Legacy

Nothing built in.

FUTURE LETTERS delivered on a date years away, a named digital executor, and printable keepsakes for relatives who will never sign in.

Getting your data out

Export compiled manuscript or individual files.

Export everything, or only entries since a date, at any time — including entries you wrote here.

How to export from Scrivener and import here

  1. In Scrivener, select the research folder, notes or individual documents you want to move.
  2. Use File → Export → Files and choose plain text, Markdown or RTF.
  3. Sign in here and open IMPORT MY OLD JOURNAL from SITE TOOLS.
  4. Choose the plain text / generic source and upload the exported files.
  5. Review the parsed entries, group them into a PROJECT folder, and start asking questions.

Why authors add this to Scrivener

Scrivener is where manuscripts are built. KNOW ME - SHOW ME is where raw material is interrogated. Dump years of journal entries, interviews, reading notes and article clippings into one vault, file them by book or chapter, and ask the whole pile questions: what themes keep appearing, what evidence supports a chapter claim, or what you still need to research.

You can keep Scrivener for final assembly and use this for discovery. Export selected entries as a clean document and drop them back into Scrivener whenever you are ready.

What carries over

Plain text, Markdown or RTF files import cleanly. Titles become entry titles and file contents become entry bodies. You can organize them into PROJECT folders after import.

Common questions

Will this replace Scrivener?

Not necessarily. Many authors use both: this for capturing and querying material, Scrivener for final manuscript assembly. Exports here are unrestricted.

Can it draft a whole chapter?

It can outline, summarize and draft sections from the entries you select. You remain the editor; every answer shows which entries it drew on.
